Wakesurf Club ("Wakesurf Club," "we," "us") runs the Wakesurf Club mobile app and this website, which help wake surfers around Austin, Texas find outings and connect with each other. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Information you give us
- Account details: your email address, password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form), and phone number if you sign in by phone.
- Profile: your first and last name, photos, bio, gender, birthday, and whether you're a rider or a boat owner.
- Outings: outings you host (title, description, lake or location, date and time, photo, number of spots and price) and outings you sign up for.
- Messages: messages you send in outing group chats and direct messages to other members.
- Payments: when you pay for a spot on an outing, your card is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We keep a Stripe customer ID and the payment status of your sign-ups.
Information collected automatically
- Push notification token: if you allow notifications, we store a token for your device so we can send you messages and outing updates.
- Technical data: like most online services, our servers record basic technical information such as IP address, device and app version, and request logs, which we use to run and secure the service.
We don't collect your device's location. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and verify your phone number.
- To show your profile to other members and let you host, find and join outings.
- To deliver your messages and send notifications you've allowed.
- To process payments for outing spots.
- To keep the community safe, including reviewing reports and removing accounts or content that break our rules.
- To maintain, troubleshoot and improve the app.
What other members can see
Wakesurf Club is a community app, so some of your information is visible to other members:
- Your profile, including your name, photos, bio and age (calculated from your birthday; your full birthday isn't shown).
- Outings you host, and your name and photo as the host.
- That you've signed up for an outing, visible to the host and others in that outing.
- Messages you send in an outing's group chat, visible to everyone in that chat. Direct messages are visible to the person you send them to.
Club administrators can view accounts and content when needed to moderate the community and provide support.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run Wakesurf Club, and only for that purpose:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, database and photo storage.
- Twilio: sending verification codes to your phone number.
- Stripe: payment processing. Stripe's use of your data is covered by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
- Expo, Apple and Google: delivering push notifications to your device.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our members, the public or Wakesurf Club.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, outings, sign-ups, messages and device tokens from our systems. We may keep limited records where the law requires it, and payment records held by Stripe are kept under Stripe's own retention policy.
Your choices and rights
- Access and update: you can view and edit your profile at any time in the app.
- Delete: you can delete your account and its data. See how to delete your account.
- Notifications and permissions: you can turn off notifications or photo access at any time in your device settings.
- Questions or requests: email us to request a copy of your information or ask anything about this policy.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords and access controls. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Wakesurf Club is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page, and we'll let you know in the app if the changes are significant.
